What is Play Therapy?

Play Therapy is used to help children make sense of their difficult life experiences and offers children and young people a safe space to explore issues using their natural medium.

As each child is unique, I use a variety of Play Therapy approaches. I principally work within the child-centred model, using narrative and creative methods, which recognise the centrality of play as the child's way of making sense of the world. Sometimes I support this approach with other theories, such as with behavioural techniques. I will always take the child's lead in deciding how best to work with the child and his/her family. I have found that a systemic approach, by supporting the people around the child, is most conducive to help bring about change.
