Looked After, Adopted Children and Families
A special interest of mine is working with Looked After and Adopted children and their families. I use a variety of therapeutic tools such as Theraplay-based techniques, Therapeutic Life Story and DDP to help children and families explore their early years.
Theraplay® is a child and family therapy used for building and enhancing attachment, self-esteem, trust and joyful engagement. It's defining principals are based on the natural patterns of a playful, secure attachment between parent and child.
At times I use Therapeutic Life Story to tell the child's life story in a creative therapeutic way, allowing time to explore difficult life events. At the end of therapy, the child will have a record of significant moments from their life on paper to take away with them. This gives the child the opportunity to revisit their past and build on their knowledge of what may have happened to them as they develop and grow.
Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) is an attachment-focused therapy. It uses knowledge of attachment and developmental trauma to help children and their families with their relationships. My clinical approach with children and families is rooted in a PACE-ful approach. I seek to acknowledge the uniqueness of each family which is reflected in my belief that crucial to change is dyadic and parental support. I am a fully certified DDP practitioner.
